The End of the Beginning

I had my last class yesterday. My very last class. I am pretty bad with goodbyes- I feel them so acutely, but as sad as I am, I am so excited. From here on out, I am free to go where I want, do what I want, be who I want. It's incredibly daunting and I still have one more shackle to rid myself of- my debt. But give it a year or two and I could be looking at a life full of travel, love, and adventure. For optimism is the beauty of youth. Optimism and freedom. I hope I experience both in abundance.

This is the beginning of my life. I have so much to do and so little time.

So goodbye my darling friends, my dusty libraries and caring professors. Goodbye my wonderful university and cherished childhood. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye. I've loved you all.

Eternally grateful, forever thankful,
Marie

Houlihan's Gets Some Media

Last presentation of my college career. I'm going to miss making these PowerPoints.
Although I've been itching to graduate, like all things that come to an end, we recall all the great happenings of the experience.

 And mine were wonderful.

Just Passing Through

Photo: November 2011

It's one of those sad days.
Luckily, they photograph beautifully.

This is my song kick for the day.
It fit the passing roads and gray skies of the Michigan highways.

Good night my birds!

Team Nathan!

This is a quick, basic sketch I helped Nathan put together to go along with his application for an agency internship.

He's going to add on to this so imagine color, words, 'tude, etc!

Best of luck to him!

The History Channel: Rough Campaign

Here's our latest roughs (emphasis on ROUGH) for The History Channel.

The bananas are class votes- we got every single one!
Need to switch out a couple of the ideas and come up with a new tagline, but I was overwhelmed by the positive response! The professor even snorted! Dreams do come true!

(please ignore the dots around the letters- i got a bit carried away :) )

A Line From Me To You

(I love this little gem by The Kooks. The singing starts @45 sec)

My Dearest Readers:

Two days till the novel writing blasts off at a million miles an hour! In order to reach 50K words by the end of November, we have to write 1,666.67 words a day!

My story is going to be a love story. They are my absolute favorite kind of stories. I always want to apologize for this fact and pretend to be more cultural, more aloof and cynical- but alas there is nothing better in this whole world than being in love and nothing second best than reading about it.

And so the novel shall follow the choices of one girl and the boy she's destined to be with. At various stages in her life she is presented with choices that will lead her to her one and only, but we will explore both avenues- the one where she says yes and the other where she says no. It will play with the idea of love and life and what one gives up when you make a choice; that perhaps there is neither destiny nor free will but an immeasurable mixture of the two.

I'm very excited to start it. I have my outline at the ready and ideas for the opening but of course, as anything born from the imagination, it will grow according to the conditions; an organic piece of art given life through meaning. I hope I have what it takes and I hope I do not give up. I will probably publish it to wattpad.com since they do a good job of protecting authors from copyright infringement. I will be sure to notify you whatever my decision.

I suppose it's a bit ironic that I enjoy writing stories but I hate doing the copywriting for ads. Maybe this adventure will make me abandon my love for art direction! That sure would make my life easier.

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to read this!

Yours truly,
   Marie

"Oh Darling- Let's Be Adventurers!"

My Darling Reader-

I write to inform you that in 11 days time I will be starting my very first novel!!

I'm using NaNoWriMo and 3 dear friends to blast my writing dream off.

NaNoWriMo, for those who don't know, stands for National Novel Writing Month. I've been familiar with it for several years now but have never considered participating myself. One day, about two months ago, one of my best friends asked if I wanted to write a story along with her. It was like one of those a-ha moments. But of course I wanted to do this- it's one of my top bucketlist items- and I'm always complaining that I can't ever get things done without a bit of pressure. Well 50,000 words in one month sounds like a lot of pressure to me!

I honestly don't know how it's going to get done seeing as I have a very demanding creative class, beaucoup de group projects and on top of it all, I'VE GOT TO FIND A JOB!

And yet, I have a good feeling about it. With my fellow support group, my determination and the competitive challenge firing me up, I believe I can do this.

What if this novel is my ticket to the world? My pass to life?  This novel could be my cafĂ© dans Paris, a view of the cliffs of Ireland, a walk along the Great Wall, and a stroll along the streets of Rome. It could be my everything I always wanted.

So, with my characters fleshed out, my plot outlined, and my ladies at my side- I head off into a bright new future.

With soul,
Ms. Marie
